Cat lovers will be pleased to know that a commercial designed to grab
the attention of tube-watching felines launched today. The Whiskas'
commercial, which features cat-friendly images and sounds like
high-pitched noises, purring, contrasting colors, zigzag lines and fast
motion, was designed by the pet-food maker to convince cat owners that
they understand cat nature so well, its food must be the best. Research
conducted by Whiskas suggests that 60% of cats will have some response to
the 30-second ad. (LA Times)

Millions of feet of news film from Fox Movietone newsreels are available
online at The Newsreel Library. The collection includes stories shot
between 1919 and 1934, and the complete newsreels and surviving outtakes
on World War II. The collection is designed for scholars and documentary
filmmakers but the public can access previews. Several South Carolina
affiliates have donated their existing 16mm newsfilm covering the years
1959 through 1978. http://www.sc.edu/newsfilm/index.html
