Our IS department is currently doing their "Desktop Y2K Compliance
Assessment", which includes little bits of software we're supposed to run
on our IS-supported machines. None of the desktop machines I use to do
actual work is supported by IS, of course, but it just so happens that I do
have an IS-supported machine sitting in the corner, presumably for the
purpose of running Notes and other groupware software that I've never had
the occasion to use. It's lived most of its life powered off.
So I blew the dust off of it, powered it up, and ran the Y2K diagnostic
utility. As it turned out, the date handling in the ROM BIOS failed the
test. Much to my amusement, the machine is a "Compaq DeskPro 2000". You
would think ... oh, never mind.
