A mother refused to buy her son any war toys, but when he started pointing
with a stick and saying "bang," she decided not to protest.  "It is, after
all, just a stick," she thought, "and if I come down too hard on his
imaginative play it could harm his development."
But then, while visiting with some friends, the child picked up a toy gun
and started gonig "bang" with it.  The mother was aghast, but the child
responded "It's OK Mommy, I'm betending it's a stick."
