Russian Fishermen Find Novel Use for Barbie Dolls

MOSCOW (Reuters) --
Fishermen in Russia's Far East have been buying up Chinese-made Barbie dolls
and using their golden hair as bait, Interfax news agency said on Sunday.
Fishermen in the northern Pacific port of Magadan were quoted as saying the
hair is very popular with the local fish.
But they have not been able to try luring fish with the hair of the original
U.S.-made Barbie dolls because they are too expensive, Interfax said.
Cheap consumer goods from neighboring China have flooded shops in Russia's
Far East since the collapse of the Soviet Union and Chinese traders have
become regular visitors.
