[A bit of leavening for an otherwise incredibly smarmy, unctuous recipe...

The following came to me from the AMS list, posted by a subscriber (Maureen
Buja) who received it from England. She suggests that we "think of this in
the same tradition of the broadside ballads that would come out for hangings
and heinous crimes.

Goodbye proper news
though we didn't care at all
we got your image anyway
every night and every day

And it seemed to me that we relived your life
like a thousand times a day
Never knowing which channel to turn to to make you go away
And I would have liked to tell you we didn't give a shit
And are really kinda of pissed off that Elton's got a hit

Goodbye Lady Di though I didn't care a toss
We had to put up with you and all the other dross

And it seemed to me that we relived your life
like a thousand times a day
Never knowing which channel to turn to to make you go away
And I would have liked to tell you we didn't give a shit
And are really kinda of pissed off that Elton's got a hit

Farewell Queen of hearts the papers will all miss you
as their circulations slide
But it seems to me that the show goes on though we're all bored to tears
and the only hope is that the story will fade over the years
And I would have liked to tell you
Though it may be a shock
You never touched us anyway and I hated all your frocks

And it seemed to me that we relived your life
like a thousand times a day
Never knowing which channel to turn to to make you go away
And I would have liked to tell you we didn't give a shit
And are really kinda of pissed off that Elton's got a hit
