	1997 IG NOBEL PRIZE CEREMONY
	===============================
	Call for Ig Nobel Delegations
	===============================

Apply now to be among the select OFFICIAL DELEGATIONS for the seventh first
annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony (7:30 p.m., Thursday evening, October 9,
1997, Sanders Theatre, Harvard University).

Each OFFICIAL DELEGATION represents a single entity or idea and may
represent a department, research lab, campus group, Morris- dance team,
private company, government, prison, and/or concept (e.g., Non-extremists
for Moderate Change from Finland, or cadres of outraged earthlings who
abduct space-aliens in revenge). They are recognized at the start of the
ceremony and use props/costumes (e.g., masks, candelabra, placards) which
help identify them.

Each delegation is responsible and culpable for its own native costuming,
props, signs, and intellectually stimulating chants. Fire is not allowed.
Shoes are mandatory.

OFFICIAL DELEGATIONS are assured of a place in the auditorium. The total
number of seats for OFFICIAL DELEGATIONS is limited. All who apply to be a
delegation will be considered, but not all of the applications will be
selected. Selection will be largely first come, first served, using the
Smith-Jones-Featherstonehaugh algorithm.

If you wish to apply, form a delegation of 4 to 12 people (no more, no
less), assign one head honcho for your delegation, and mail (via snail mail)
the application form (see below). Include a check that will not bounce ($10
per non-student and $8 per student in your delegation) and a STAMPED,
SELF-ADDRESSED ENVELOPE.

The form, check, and envelope must be received by Tuesday, September 23,
1997. (No email, no extensions, no refunds, no compassion.) Then wait
patiently to receive written notice about whether your OFFICIAL DELEGATION
has been selected. Your check will be returned only if you are not selected.
(We plan to send notices by September 25.)

Do you have questions about OFFICIAL DELEGATIONS? Email or call Margaret
Ann (mag@mit.edu or 617-253-0217), Ed (eaj@mit.edu or 617-253-5030), or Dee
(deedc@mit.edu or 617-253-5543).
