On Friday, November 29, 1996, you can see and hear recorded broadcasts of
the Sixth First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony.
RADIO. National Public Radio's "Talk of the Nation/Science Friday" with Ira
Flatow. The broadcast can be heard in most parts of the US, and is also
syndicated to many countries in Europe and elsewhere. (Science Friday is
a two-hour program. One of those hours -- we do not know which one -- will
be devoted to the Ig.)
FOR SCHEDULED TIMES: http://www.c-span.org/
Or telephone your local radio station.
TELEVISION. C-SPAN and C-SPAN-2.
The Ig will be broadcast on C-SPAN2 at 8:20 am Washington DC time, and
repeated at various points over the next several hours or days on both
C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN.
FOR SCHEDULED TIMES:

(Note: the schedule posted on the C-SPAN web site is not always kept up
to date) C-SPAN automatic schedule telephone number: 202-628-2205
The Ig ceremony was produced by The Annals of Improbable Research (AIR),
and held at Harvard University's Sanders Theatre. Ten Ig Nobel Prizes were
awarded to people whose achievements "cannot or should not be reproduced."
The Prizes were handed out by genuine Nobel Laureates.
(We had hoped to give you more advance notice of the TV broadcast, but
C-SPAN's broadcast schedule was announced at the last moment.
Sorry about that.)

Cockroach Libretto
As part of the Ig ceremony, several of the Nobel Laureates also performed
in the world premiere of a mini-opera, "Lament Del Cockroach. (One Laureate
was also given away in the Win-a-Date-With-a-Nobel-Laureate-Contest.)
The complete libretto of "Lament Del Cockroach" is now posted on our web
site at:

We suggest that you download the text in advance so you can savor the words
while you watch or listen to the C-SPAN and NPR Science Friday versions of
the event.
A full print report on the Ig, with lots of pictures and juicy scientific
gossip, will be published in the Jan/Feb 1997 issue of The Annals of
Improbable Research. For an alternative, and perhaps objective review, see
the December issue of Scientific American.
