That brings back memories of days of yore, when Unix Fourth (maybe Fifth)
Edition [sic] ruled the Earth, or about a dozen sites. A phone call came
in to the Unix research lab at Murray Hill, with a query that implied that
Unix was being used to assist Cobalt-60 irradiation at a major hospital.
After an hour of macabre humor ("bus error - patient dumped", etc.) it was
ascertained that they were only using a Unix system to calculate doses, not
to run the time-sensitive, life-critical medical devices.Whew.
Of course, the world has evolved, and now people do use Unix to run
time-sensitive, life-critical devices...
