During the ice storm that struck this area on March 7, I struck up a
conversation with one of our local police officers.  His radio was
chattering away with tales of downed power lines and car accidents.  Lots
of activity for a relatively small town (Westfield, NJ); and, I remarked,
"To say nothing of the murder!"  "Oh, that," he replied; "was just some
domestic violence."

On Monday March 4, Meta Bauer shot and killed her husband Jeffrey, then
killed herself.  Jeffrey was the owner/publisher of one of the town's
two newspapers, having taken over recently from his late older brother.
Bauer's paper chose not to cover the story.

But I digress.  The *interesting* part of this story is Meta's concise
suicide note (described in an AP article carried in another paper).
Her note read:
	D-N-R		[which means "do not resuscitate"]
	Give organs	[she thoughtfully shot herself through the mouth]
	A-		[her blood type]
	Meta		[her name]
The note would have been hard to miss; she wrote it on her abdomen,
in blue ink.
