Friends (and fans) of Tony Trischka will be delighted by this review that
appeared in the NY Times today:
"Glory Shone Around: A Christmas Collection" (Rounder)
Tony Trischka totes his banjo through some unusual situations on this mostly
instrumental holiday disk. One minute, he's casually dueting with Pete
Seeger on "Good King Wenceslas," the next he's working on a complex,
multiple-movement arrangement of "Angels We Have Heard On High," with the
Turtle Island String Quartet. By the album's end, he's accompanying a New
Jersey children's choir cutely soaring across "Calling the Children." From
fast bluegrass picking to spoken holiday tales about banjos, "Glory Shone
Around" is a satisfying and thoughtful 16-song collection that one hopes
will stay in print for many more Christmasses to come.
