British viewers will see 35 minutes more of "The Beatles Anthology" than
American TV audiences because of cuts made to accommodate commercial breaks.
At a London press launch for the series (Nov. 19/ABC), series director Geoff
Wonfor said that the majority of cuts were made during song performances.
"Over the six hours, the longest we go (in America) without a break is eight
minutes," he said. "I don't know how Americans stand to watch TV." By the
way, none of those pesky commercials will be for meat or alcohol products.
Paul and Linda McCartney, vegetarians, and Ringo Starr, a recovering
alcoholic, had no impact on the decision. An ABC spokeswoman said that
restrictions were made in the United States voluntarily by the network in
order to avoid embarrassment to the musicians as well as the sponsors.

A lost tape of an impromptu interview of John Lennon by Howard Cosell is
scheduled to be broadcast Nov. 20 during ABC's "Monday Night Football"
broadcast. The interview was conducted during Lennon's first NFL game. In
the footage, Lennon is seated next to then-governor Ronald Reagan, who
reportedly explained the game to him. Coincidentally, Cosell was the first
broadcaster to report Lennon's death in 1980--during "Monday Night
Football." (LA Times)

In 1962, a year after he bought the Cleveland Browns, Art Modell fired
legendary coach Paul Brown, after whom the team was named. In his 1979
autobiography, Brown wrote that he and Modell had a "basic conflict between
two different philosophies of operating -- one from knowledge and
experience; the other from a complete lack of either." (SF Chronicle)
