Trenton, New Jersey:
A poodle is just as responsible for a dogfight as the German Shepherd that
mauled it -- and the same goes for their owners, an appeals court ruled.
The panel overturned a ruling that required the German Shepherd's owner,
Peter Barragans, to pay $1,316 in veterinarian bills for the wounded smaller
dog. The owners will now split the bills.
"If dogs were moral actors in contemplation of the law, we might agree with
the trial judge that Barragans' German Shepherd was wholly at fault because
the poodle's trespassing did not justify the German Shepherd's ripping the
smaller dog apart," the appeals court said Wednesday.
"Under our legal system, however, the only moral actors are human beings."

New York, New York:
Pete Rose never even got to step up to the plate for Pizza Hut.
The former ballplayer's career as a pitchman for Pizza Hut ended before it
began when executives canceled an ad campaign making jest of his banishment
from the game for gambling. The commercial was to have been shot Saturday.
Pizza Hut found other celebrities who better project its family image, a
spokesman said. [e.g. Rush Limbaugh, see Fun_People on 4/4/95* -psl]
The abandoned script has a boy asking Rose about his baseball achievements.
Rose asks the youngster if he likes his pizza. The boy's reply: "You bet."
Rose tells the boy that isn't the best choice of words.
