[This will make lots more sense if you've seen the movie "The Wizard of Speed
and Time." I seem to be recommending a lot of classic films (on video) these
days. Oh well. T.W.o.S.a.T. is certainly one of the required experiences for
fully sentient modern life... -psl]

Please send your messages so that they arrive during: JULY 18-22, 1994
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wait, what do I send?!" - Write a message in your own words, possibly
along the lines of the following paragraphs (& please excuse the ego):
"We just rented an amazing video here in <<your town/state/country>>,
and found out it's stolen property! One man worked five years for
free, doing over 130 jobs to make this ingenious cult-classic, but
he's never gotten any money from its worldwide sales! The FBI won't
protect his copyright, he can't afford an attorney, and the system's
about to seize his lifework to pay its illegal distributor's debts!
And it's not happening only to him. Please contact the filmmaker
_now_, and find out what is destroying Hollywood's creative spirit."
"With this filmmaker's amazing footage and documentation, your show
could expose the Movie Capital's millionaire distribution crooks,
the corruption of Hollywood's unions, and the odd reluctance of our
government's justice system to protect its once-proud citizens."
"Your show may also get full credit for rescuing this landmark movie
- for bringing it to your network's attention and its long-awaited
premiere broadcast! It's a bizarre comedy-adventure of Hollywood's
greed and corruption versus a handful of eccentric but unconquerable
creative talents - with terrific visuals and wild special effects!"
Or write something else! This saga has so many intrigues and angles,
that any of the following insider info could attract a news report:
(It helps if you've seen "Wizard of Speed and Time", which may still
be at Blockbuster or your local video store. And since none of its
creators see any income from WoSaT's present distribution, I do _not_
mind if you make a copy for your or your friends' viewing pleasure.)
How did a UCLA math-language major - without formal training or movie
industry relatives - write, produce, direct, edit, star in and do
130 jobs to make a first-time, full-length 35mm professional film?
Isn't that illegal - why didn't the Hollywood unions stop him?
Isn't that a World Record - why hasn't Guinness recognized him?
How did a filmmaker single-handedly create original special effects
shots faster than Lucas' ILM complex - and without computers?
Why would a feature - with outstanding reviews, block-long lines, SRO
audiences, an incredible $11,169 per-screen average - be suddenly
pulled from its theatrical release and dumped to limited video?
Why would a Hollywood distributor most known for product like "Maniac
Cop" and "Frankenhooker" risk fraud and criminal conviction to
acquire a Disney-like comedy-adventure - and then bury that movie
when it suddenly became a critically-acclaimed hit?
Why hasn't this phenomenally crowd-pleasing film shown on network TV?
Why has a network series instead ripped it off, scene-for-scene?
How can a filmmaker make such a popular film ("the most Hollywood
movie ever made", "the best film Disney never distributed") and
still not realize any distribution income from his own work?
Do payoffs occur between distributors to eliminate competition?
How can the distributor block the filmmaker's access to his own work?
How can a big Hollywood distributor market a movie worldwide without
a legal contract or copyright assignment?
Why won't the FBI (and the rest of our tax-supported government) do
its job? Is that FBI videotape warning logo a pathetic joke?
Did an ex-used car salesman actually pass himself off as a legitimate
producer, insist on acting as a con-artist producer in this movie,
then embezzle over $100,000 out of its production funds? And is
that producer a best-buddy of the illegal distributor's president?
Did the crooked producer and distributor's president really attempt to
get a secret $1,000,000 insurance policy on the filmmaker's life?
Why is the system punishing the sacrificing filmmaker by seizing more
of his property, and then selling it back to the crooks?
Why do people keep raving about this unpublicized, no-name, non-studio
production? Is it actually filled with over 1000 subliminals? Do
some of those expose the crooked distributor, producer and system?
Did the producer call with confession, then scream that the filmmaker
was using witches to put a curse on him? Was the call recorded?
How did the filmmaker labor on this movie for 5 years without income?
Why hasn't this acclaimed filmmaker done any new movie work? How does
he even stay alive? Or rate a 67,500-subscriber InterNet group?
Did the filmmaker really get his first kiss in his movie - in romantic
engagement with his stunning co-star, Miss Virginia 1980?
Did the filmmaker actually vow celibacy until his movie's completion,
and is he at all frustrated that it's been tied up for ten years?
Is it any wonder that this determinedly obsessive, terminally-creative
workaholic nerd got so shafted by the establishment? Is insanity
a requirement for driven genius? Or insane reality its result?
How can a filmmaker do more than Lucas, Spielberg, Chaplin or Orson
Wells ever did on any movie, inspire countless new filmmakers and
successful artists, launch the career of a hit TV series star, get
his work introduced on a Disney television special by OJ Simpson,
and still be unknown to the general public?
And what in the world is going to happen to him next??
Whatever and whomever you write, please tell them to
_immediately_ contact and interview the filmmaker:
"Will our letters really help?" -- YES. In this decade of increasing
illiteracy, one letter to a TV program often represents over a million
tremendously-valued viewer voices. Your words _will_ be read. If your
cards or letters are lucid, intriguing and compelling, they _will_ reach
the programming executives. This is the best (and maybe last) chance
to get "The Wizard of Speed and Time" movie away from the crooks, to
get it repaired -- and finally aired!
PLEASE WRITE!!
