On a Ph.D. oral, he asked the candidate about the convergence properties
of certain hypergeometric series.  "I don't remember," said the student,
"but I can always look it up if I need it." [The professor] was not pleased.
"That doesn't seem to be true," he said, "because you sure need it now."
