Subject: first "fish & chips" then "kids & chips"
Here is one of those "Wow! Mr. Science" news items that makes
those of us not employed in the computer industry wonder if we can really
trust the high-tech establishment.--Rich Lague
"How to Scan a Cat." NY Times Magazine, 16 January, p. 11.
Some companies have developed microchips which can be
injected underneath the skin and read by a scanner.
Currently the chips are being used to tag salmon "in a
Federal wildlife program known as fish and chips." Future
uses could include tagging children or implanting credit
cards so they would not be lost.
