Subject: Car Names in Tokyo

From: Paul Bernard <paul-arakawa-tokyo@inJapan.net>

I really enjoyed the car names list.

My favourite is the Isuzu Big Horn (sold as "Trooper" elsewhere.) All these
Japanese drivers zooming around oblivious to the personal advertising on
their tail-gates.

By the way, I do have my second and much loved Mitisubishi Delica. I had
wondered about the genesis of this name, and it came to me one night after
more sake than is good for me in my local izakaya. Delivery Car, I suppose.
A couple of years ago they marketed a special, the "Delica Jasper."

I always find it strange living in a place where the cars are called Gloria
and Cedric. No worse than Edsel, I suppose.

The home-market-only minicars are great, too. I've seen a Parsley as well
as a Lettace, and older Japan hands than I have told me of the celebrated
Honda Bugger, but I don't really know if it existed.

Paul Bernard,
Tokyo.
