Subject: BONG Bull Bits No. 354!

Excerpted-from: BONG Bull No. 354!

NEWS. In the Internet someone asked where the expression "news"

comes from, and the majority opinion was North East West South,

which makes it mere coincidence that we're not all Wenspeople.

Into the confusion stepped Mark Lutton (mlutton@world.std.com),

offering:
     "And in French, where it's 'Nouvelles:'  North; Over there;

Under here; Very far away; East; Less far away; Less far than that

even; Every which way but loose; South."
 ...

AUTHOR QUERY. An occasionally reliable source is trying to track

down two news lore items he read years ago:
One was a joke about USA Today winning a Pulitzer for Best

Investigative Paragraph.
The other was about a wire service reporter (AP, perhaps) who

took some shoes in for repair in New York right before an 18-month

assignment abroad (Rome, perhaps). When he returned to N.Y. he

went to pick them up and was told, "They'll be ready Friday."
Anyone willing to corroborate or claim either crack, contact

BONG Center at the address below and score major karmic points for

assisting a colleague.
