I never thought the mails were that slow until I got a postcard
from Cairo, and there were only two pyramids in the picture.

I never realized how long I had been away from the Pacific Northwest (where I
went to college in the 60s) until, as I was flying back to Portland (OR) a few
years ago, staring out the window at all the familiar sights, noting all the
subtle changes, I suddenly realized that the mountains didn't look right - you
could see how they had worn down and weren't the same shape or as tall as they
had been (well, one of them anyway) ...
