    In this year that marks the tenth anniversary of the divestiture of the
Bell operating companies I have just been asked to vote on whether it would be
okay to change the name "American Telephone and Telegraph Company" to "AT&T
Corp." (of course I realize they'll do it even if I say "no").

    Here is part of the explanation sent to stock holders (you'll notice they
don't mention Unix by name):

	The Company adopted the name American Telephone and
	Telegraph more than a century ago.  While over the
	years the name achieved a distinctive place in the
	annals of corporate America, it is also associated
	with old ways and outdated technologies.
